The Bath City Council has approved changes to the parking ordinance for the City of Bath in order to implement a South End Residential Parking Permit program starting January 1st 2022.
This program limits on-street parking for non-permit holders to 1 hour in the South End.
The South End is defined as south of RT 1/Leeman Hwy, between Washington St and High St, south to Webber Ave.
South End Residents
South End residents are eligible to apply for a free resident permit which allows them to park on the streets in excess of the 1-hour limit, excluding winter parking ban times or regular parking restrictions such as fire hydrants or no parking zones. The residential parking permits are managed by the Bath Police Dept. Parking Enforcement Officer (PEO). Residents can request a resident permit application from the Bath PD Parking Enforcement Officer (firstname.lastname@example.org) or download an application (CLICK HERE).
Bring the completed application and pertinent documents to the Bath Police Department (250 Water St.), open Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
For BIW employees, the east side of Washington Street alongside BIW will become a fully permitted area, excluding: bus parking zones, limited visitor parking in front of the BIW main office building by Union St, and 30 minute parking across from One Stop/West Gate area. This Washington Street permit parking is for CARPOOL/VANPOOL parking only. Permits will be issued to BIW workers who carpool to work together. There needs to be at least two driver-licensed, BIW-employed, drivers for each permit. Applications for these permits are with the Bath Police Department Parking Enforcement Officer, who will manage the program. The cost for these permits is $60 a month.
The Castine Ave. permit lot will remain in use for BIW employee permit holders for the time being, pending regular review by City Council. Note: This lot is currently full and there is a waiting list. These permits are also $60/month.
BIW employees are encouraged to utilize BIW’s satellite lots and shuttle in to work. The north end of Bath parking restrictions will remain in place, including the downtown area. All parking restrictions in Bath are strictly enforced.
