Spring Cleanup Week - April 12 to April 17

Spring Cleanup Week is for Bath residents ONLY. 

Monday, April 12 - Friday, April 16  |  7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Saturday, April 17  |  8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Bath residents may bring in (at no cost!) to the Bath Landfill:

  • 1 Pickup Load of Bulky/Demo Waste
  • 1 Pickup Load of Metal
  • 2 Tires
  • 2 Pickup Loads of Brush and Yard Waste

Landfill Closed April 26 - 30
The Bath Landfill will be closed Monday, April 26 - Friday, April 30 so that the City can replace our scale house building. Customers may use the Pine Tree Waste West Bath Transfer Station for immediate disposal or recycling needs. Fees for that service must be paid by the customer. Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day - May 8

Ready for spring cleaning? Mark your calendars for May 8, Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day! MANDATORY preregistration takes place from April 12 - May 7 by calling 1-888-958-2255. You cannot pre-register before April 12. At this time, the event is only open to residents of Bath, Woolwich, Georgetown, Topsham, Harpswell, and Arrowsic. To learn more, Click Here.

2021 Backyard Composting Supplies Sale

It's time again to place your orders for the City of Bath Backyard Composting Supplies Sale! 

Composting organic waste, such as food scraps and yard trimmings, helps you to reduce the number of trash bags you buy, and saves space in the landfill. Adding finished compost to your garden also helps your plants grow bigger and healthier!

2021 Backyard Composting Supplies Order Form

All order forms should be dropped off with payment at Bath Public Works (450 Oak Grove Ave, Bath) (NOT the Landfill) by April 23 at 2:30 p.m.

Pick up your order at the Bath Landfill (11 Detritus Dr, Bath) starting June 7, 2021, 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

The Bath Landfill provides a safe, environmentally sound, affordable, and convenient place for disposal of solid waste to the residents and businesses of Bath and several nearby communities.

Acceptable Wastes:

The following items are accepted for burial in the landfill:

  • Solid Waste
  • Construction & demolition debris
  • Household refuse
  • Bulky waste
  • Contaminated recyclables

Please be aware that Bath City Ordinance prohibits the drop-off of household refuse by residential customers at the landfill.  The curbside collection service should be utilized.

These items are not accepted for disposal:

  • Liquids
  • Septage
  • Agricultural waste
  • Universal waste
  • Hazardous waste*, except for small quantities of household hazardous waste mixed with general refuse
  • Un-permitted special waste
  • Junked or abandoned vehicles
  • Asbestos and asbestos containing wastes unless specifically authorized by the MDEP
  • Contaminated soil
  • Paper mill or tannery sludge
  • Dead animals
  • Medical and other potentially infectious or pathogenic wastes
  • Sandblasting grit
  • Industrial process wastes
  • Industrial fly ash and bottom ash
  • Oily waste
  • Sheetrock

Any other wastes not specifically mentioned in the Operations & Maintenance manual or otherwise deemed unacceptable by the City or MDEP

*The Environmental Depot in Lewiston and the Riverside Recycling Facility in Portland serve as collection sites for household hazardous waste from all Maine residents. Check their web sites for hours and charges. The City of Bath also occasionally holds a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day for local communities - please call the Landfill at (207) 443-8356 for more information.

  • Dewatered backwash filtrate from Bath Water District
  • Street sweepings
  • Grit & screenings from Bath Wastewater Plant
  • Dewatered sludge from Bath Wastewater Plant
