Suspected Gas Leak: What To Do
It is important to take the proper steps if you smell gas.
What should I do if I smell a gas leak?
- Evacuate all occupants immediately.
- Leave the area and Call 911 from a safe distance.
- Know your local propane/natural gas service provider and number.
- Seek shelter at a safe distance, (advise 911 operator of safe location).
- Provide 911 with a call back number.
- DO NOT raise or lower the windows or use any phone inside your home.
- DO NOT open your garage door.
- Below is a list of things you should NOT do if you suspect a gas leak.
- DO NOT enter the premises if you notice a strong gas odor or if there is other evidence of a gas leak.
- DO NOT smoke or make a spark or flame.
- DO NOT turn on any electrical switches, appliances or lights as an electrical charge could create a spark.
- DO NOT raise or lower the windows or use any phone inside your home.
- DO NOT open your garage door.
After leaving your home and relocating a safe distance away, call 911 then your local gas company number.
