Following is a selected listing of Bath recreational facilities:

LITTLE LEAGUE AND BASEBALL FIELDS

Bath maintains four Little League and/or regulation baseball fields. These include Tainter, Kelly, Hawkes and Kimball.

SOFTBALL FIELDS

Bath claims three softball fields. These include Tainter, Legion, and Hawkes. Some of these groups will also use baseball fields if they are not being utilized.

SOCCER AND MULTI-PURPOSE FIELDS

Bath maintains eight municipal fields. These include Goddard, Kimball, Hawkes, McMann, Legion, Tainter, Kelly and Varnum. Three additional fields are available for use at the Hyde School; the availability of these fields varies due to Hyde School's own recreational and sports demands and their desire to reduce maintenance cost by limiting use during the summer months.

OUTDOOR BASKETBALL COURTS

Bath claims six basketball courts. They are located at the Junior High School, Fisher-Mitchell School, Dike-Newell School, Huse School (2) and one lighted court at McMann Outdoor Area on Congress Avenue.

OUTDOOR TENNIS COURTS

Bath has only one location for its four outdoor tennis courts, McMann Outdoor Area. All four courts are lighted for nighttime use.

PLAYGROUNDS

There are three playgrounds in Bath - one located at Fisher-Mitchell School, one at Huse School and one at Dike Newell School.

PICNIC TABLES

Bath has six outdoor picnic tables, in addition to a number of local merchants that provide outdoor picnic tables for their customers. Additional picnic tables are found at the Waterfront Park and the Maine Maritime Museum. Picnic benches are located throughout the Library Park.

SWIMMING

The Bath YMCA located in the downtown area provides local and regional residents with an 1875 square foot pool. Fifteen miles away, two saltwater beaches are available at Reid State Park in Georgetown and Popham State Park in Phippsburg.

EXERCISE TRAILS

In Bath, joggers and walkers typically use local streets and byways with low traffic volumes. There are also a number of exercise stations on the fitness course at Fisher Mitchell playground.

SLED/SNOW PLAY AREAS

Only ten towns in Maine report having designated areas for sledding, tobogganing and other snow play activities. Bath is one of these, with one designated area at the McMann Outdoor Area. Other informal opportunities occur on private lands such as backyards, neighborhood lots, golf courses, ski areas and private estates. Bath has numerous opportunities including the golf course, power lines and cemeteries.

COMMUNITY RECREATIONAL AREA

The Edward McMann Outdoor Area provides various fields for formal recreational opportunities. These include football, track, baseball, softball, soccer, lacrosse, basketball, and tennis. Some fields are multi-purpose, allowing open space for informal recreational play, i.e. Frisbee, flag and touch football, kickball, kite flying, model rocketry, radio controlled airplanes, etc. In winter time the snow covered hill is ideal for saucers, sleds, toboggans, and first time skiers. This facility is used extensively by the School Department, Recreation Department and the general public.
