Located on Commercial Street in Bath, the Bath Waterfront Park overlooks the Kennebec River and offers a panoramic view of the river. Winding foot paths meander along the river with benches placed throughout the park and along the river to facilitate boat watching. There is a picnic area with picnic tables under cover and gently rolling grassy knolls that beckon pedestrians to stretch out and daydream. There is also a restroom facility located at the park. New benches and lamp posts are being installed in the spring and summer of 2007.
LIBRARY PARK
The Library Park is located on the corner of Washington and Summer Sts. and is the home of the Patten Free Library. Park benches and an abundance of grassy slopes provide an inviting spot for visitors to sit and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere as they while away the afternoon with a good book from the Patten Free Library, or simply to view the sites of the Kennebec River and the city below.
A replica of the original gazebo that was in the park many years ago is centered in the middle of the Park and houses many cultural events throughout the year. The gazebo houses musical concerts and other cultural offerings. There is also a landmark bronze statue and fountain "Spirit of the Sea" created by William Zorach at the corner of the park.
SOUTH END PARK
Bath's newest park was completed in 2008. The 10-acre park has a 1/3 mile walking path around the perimeter and a large expanse of field; great for flying kites, playing frisbee, or holding a pick-up game of any sport. The City installed two public bocce courts, which are up to national bocce tournament standards, and two beautiful hand-hewn log benches made by a Maine artist. There is a large pier on the river for fishing and other activities - all with a great view of the Kennebec River.
The South End Park is also known as the "South End Dog Park." Well-behaved dogs under voice command are allowed to run in this park, as long as owners have compete control and clean up after their pets. You and your dogs can meet other dog owners, chase balls, and run until tuckered out .
