Criminal Investigation Division (CID)

Detective Division:

The Bath Police Department has 3 Detectives assigned to handle a variety of cases. The common tasks assigned to the Detective Division are:

  • Processes the Concealed Weapons Applications.
  • Overseeing the Sex Offender Registration and Neighborhood Notification programs.
  • Conducts background checks on potential public safety employees.

Juvenile Cases:
One of the duties of one Detective is to handle all youth related criminal matters. These include cases where juveniles are victims as well as perpetrators in many crimes. In cases where children are victims, the Youth Detective works closely with other State and Local agencies to ensure the child receives proper support and care throughout the investigation.

When a juvenile is a perpetrator, the Detective works closely with the Court and School Systems as well as State Agencies to identify troubled and at risk juveniles. Once a juvenile is identified, the Youth Detective, in conjunction with the other agencies can employ some intervention methods in hopes to prevent repeat offenses.

Drug Offenses:
There is a Detective assigned to handle all Drug related offenses. The Bath PD Drug Investigator is certified by, and works closely with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency. He is specially trained in many areas of Drug Investigations to include: drug identifications, current drug trends, writing search warrants, developing informants, and surveillance techniques.

The Bath Police Department recognizes that Illegal Drug Use contributes to many other violent crimes. Illegal Drug use creates a harmful effect on a community’s quality of life and as such, the Bath Police Department works hard and commits much of their resources to bringing drug dealers to justice.
