Assessor’s Office - 443-8336 Responsibilities: To equitably apply Maine tax law to the properties here in Bath. Tax assessing (property, personal property, equipment), answers questions about tax exemptions, refunds and laws; and creates and maintains tax maps.
Cemeteries and Parks Department - 443-8345 Responsibilities: Burials and maintenance within all city cemeteries, city park, waterfront park, boat launch facility, several monument parks, other city-owned properties and the forestry division.
City Clerk’s Office - 443-8332 Responsibilities: Election administration, City Council records, agendas and proceedings, prepares city Code of Ordinances. Birth, death and marriage certificates, maintains all vital statistics and other city records and legal documents. Business licensing, hunting and fishing licenses, dog licenses.
City Council The City of Bath's governmental style is a Council-Manager plan. The Bath City Council, with its nine members, is the legislative body and, as such, is responsible for all policy development. Information can be accessed through the City Clerk's webpage.
City Manager’s Office - 443-8330 Responsibilities: Bridge between community and city officials, and often first contact for questions and complaints. Answers questions and helps direct calls to appropriate department and personnel. The administrative arm of the City is headed by the City Manager.
City Planner’s Office - 443-8363 Responsibilities: Coordinates the planning functions for the City, serves as staff to the Planning Board, regulates land use code, helps home owners and developers navigate their way through the Planning Board-review process, plans and carries out community development projects, helps community achieve future goals.
Codes Office - 443-8334 Responsibilities: Administration of various City codes, primarily those dealing with building and land development. Handles all zoning issues and is the public's liaison to the Zoning Board. Contact person for Zoning Board approval prior to the issuance of construction permits. Also serves as the City Health Officer: Conducts restaurant and mobile food vending unit inspections, annual City flu immunization clinics, and complaints dealing with public health issues.
Community Development Office - 443-8372 Responsibilities: Researches, applies for, and administers majority of City’s grants. Organizes Citizen Involvement Day. Serves under the City Manager.
Finance Office - 443-8338 Responsibilities: The outflow of city funds. Regulates cash reconciliation and cash management for all city accounts and departments; fulfills Federal and State requirements such as quarterly reports, IRS reports and 1099s; accounts payable and the city’s weekly payroll. Division of the Finance Department.
Fire Department - office line 443-5034 (emergency call 911) Responsibilites: Responds to fire calls, rescue calls and other emergency services. Bath Fire & Rescue protects 10,000 (12,000 summer) people living in an area of 15 square miles. Has a mutual aid agreement with 10 communities. Rescue service is licensed at EMT-B and permitted to Paramedic Level (also transport service). Has a contract with one bordering community to provide fire protection services and two bordering communities for rescue services.
General Assistance - 443-8335 Responsibilities: Assists low income Bath residents in obtaining social services and temporary financial support.
Maintenance Department - 443-8365 Responsibilities: Maintains, cleans, and repairs city-owned buildings and grounds.
Police Department - office line 443-5563 (emergency call 911) Responsibilities: Patrol Division performs various police functions, including but not limited to; traffic control and direction, traffic enforcement, motor vehicle accident investigations, and arrest of persons involved in crimes and misconduct. Patrol officers respond to civil disturbances, domestic disputes, missing children, prowlers, and other calls for service. The Bath Police Department also employs a fulltime Parking Enforcement Officer, a part time Animal Control Officer and several School Crossing Guides. Additional personnel include lobby receptionists who handle non-emergency matters and walk-in customers and a police chaplain.
Public Works Department - 443-8357 Responsibilities: Manages the infrastructure of the City, including: sewers, streets, sidewalks, , plowing and snow removal. Also manages Bath Landfill, solid waste removal and recycling and the Waste Water Treatment Plant.
Treasurer’s Office - 443-8340 Responsibilities: processes incoming taxes and fees for both City and State. Tax collection, (excise taxes, property taxes, and personal property taxes); collection of fees, fines and dues for city departments including Police, Recreation, Landfill, School Departments and the Skatepark, as well as the Bath Water Districts’ liens and foreclosure payments. Also acts as an agent for the Maine State Department of Motor Vehicles and Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, processing fees for licensing motor vehicle registrations (including cars, trucks, boats, ATVs, snowmobiles) and offering the State of Maine’s Rapid Renewal online registration through the city website. School Department - 443-6601 Education policy is overseen by a nine-member School Board, one of whom is a sitting City Council member. The administrative arm of education for the City is the Superintendent of Schools.
Wastewater Treatment Plant - 443-8348 A division of the Public Works department, WWTP Maintains and regulates pump stations and the wastewater treatment plant.
Recreation Department - 443-8360 Responsibilities: administration of all recreational programs sponsored by the City of Bath and for the administration, use, supervision, and maintenance of all indoor and outdoor public recreational facilities.

Bath Water District - 443-2391 Provides water and sewer to City of Bath and parts of surrounding communities.
Sagadahoc County Courthouse - 443-8200 Houses County Commissioner’s Office, Emergency Management, Sheriff’s Department, Registry of Probate, Registry of Deeds, County Treasurer’s Office, Sagadahoc County Communications. Located at 752 High St., Bath.
West Bath District Courthouse - 442-0200 Court proceedings are held here, as well as other court-related services. Located on New Meadows Road, West Bath.
