Blind Exemptions

Blind Exemptions (Title 36 Section 655)

must be a resident of the State of Maine

must be legally blind as determined by a Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathy, or Doctor of Optometry

partial exemption of $4,000 is deducted from the taxable valuation of the property

this exemption can be received simultaneously with the veteran’s or widow’s exemption

submit a letter from your physician declaring that you are legally blind

How to Apply:

Send in documentation from your doctor certifying that you are legally blind
documentation must be received by April 1 to qualify for the current year
