Green Street Rehabilitation Project

The City of Bath has begun a process to rehabilitate Green Street. Envisioned as more than just a repaving project, the City has engaged the services of Wright-Pierce Engineers to assist in design improvements to the street that will enhance the livability and functionality of the street.

A new road surface is the starting point. Also planned:

  • A rebuilding of the sidewalk to increase the safety and enjoyment of pedestrians
  • Adjustment of utility poles to make plowing easier
  • Modification of the storm drain and sewer systems to help make those systems function better and meet the requirements of the Maine Department of Enviornmental Protection
  • Repair or replacement of the water maine and related appurtenances

The public works staff has met with Wright-Pierce to develop a concept as a starting point for a dialog with residents of the street and the general public. A link to that concept plan can be found here: Green St Preliminary Plan

The City invites all interested parties to a public meeting where this concept will be presented. We would like to get your feedback now, during the design process, so we can adjust the plan if necessary. Once the design process is complete, it will be more difficult and possibly more expensive to make changes.

The City intends to undertake this process during the 2019 construction season. However, that is dependent on several factors:

  • Level of complexity of the planned improvements
  • Anticipated cost of the project
  • Results of the bidding process and availability of contractors
  • Results of our study of the underground infrastructure and how much work might be needed prior to starting any surface improvements
  • Potential need to acquire easements from adjacent property owners for some of those sewer and storm drain improvements

Please plan to attend the upcoming public meeting:

Thursday, December 13 at 5:30pm
Bath City Hall Auditorium - 55 Front Street

The City needs your feedback to move forward on the project. Thank you.
